The disruption facing the business of filmed entertainment is a hot topic. It is not the first time Hollywood has seemed in trouble. However, this time feels different, because it is. Yet, no one has a plan -- until now.
The book was born from the strikes of 2023. The course goes deeper with up-to-date resources.
The business of movie making has always been somewhat elusive; the equivalent of grabbing a tiger by the tail. And that is because it is an art form which is highly subjective, and the finances are different for every single project (by design). Make no mistake, show business is business first. Every film is the equivalent of a start up business. As such, why should said business be excused from corporate expectations of social responsibility?
There is no reason why films should not be utilizing and leveraging the importance of Impact Investing, which has taken off in every other sector across the globe in the past two decades. Quite honestly, if the independent film industry were to embrace this, it could very well be the thing that fixes Hollywood’s suffering business model.
"This book is a gold mine. So many insights, and filled with a wonderful story of making it through the belly of the Hollywood beast. An excellent read I highly recommend."

Laurie, I’m so glad you and Story Ripples are still moving forward with this concept. With so many epitaphs being written about the industry, and with this country’s political situation about to change for the worse, now more than ever, we need to engage the public with a new approach and harness the collective energy that popular entertainment can bring, to make a positive impact on the world. I will dive into your course, as your book Values has given me (and I hope others) the confidence to move forward with not-for-profit storytelling. 😊
